  • The Election of 1860 - John C. Breckinridge and Abraham Lincoln. Located in America.
  • Lincoln did not win the popular vote, but he did win the election with a total of 180 electoral votes.
  • Many Southerners did not like that Lincoln was president.
  • This prompted the South to secede from the United States. They have been meaning to for sometime, but this really triggered them.
  • The South did not like Lincoln because he promised to oppose slavery, which Southerners did not agree on.
  • Announcing their exit, this had become the begining of the Civil War.
