  • Ashley Is Introduced
  • Ashley has been feeling really down lately. She thinks it may be just because school is stressing her out, but she decides she's going to talk to her mom about it.
  • Ashley Talks to her Mom
  • Of course, we'll go see the family doctor. 
  • Mom, lately i've been feeling really depressed. I think it's because of school, but could we talk to someone about it just in case? 
  • I've been feeling sad, I don't have motivation to finish my school work, I've been really tired, and I feel really alone.
  • Ashley talks to her doctor
  • It sounds like to me that you do in fact have depression. It's very good that you seeked help and tried to fix the situation before it got too bad.
  • The person that has depression in this story is introduced. Narrator explains the step she is going to take.
  • Doctor suggests steps that Ashley can take
  • We could start you on an antidepressant, or you can get a counsellor, or both. Physical health is also important. Try to spend more time with your family and friends too.
  • Ashley talks to her mom about how she has been feeling and tells her she wants to talk to somebody to make sure she isn't wrong.

  • If you are feeling depressed, you should talk to somebody, seek help, and take the steps neccesarry to better how you're feeling if it suggested.  Spending time with friends and family is important. So is physical health. Never bottle things up inside. 
  • Her doctor tells her that she does have depression and that it's a good thing that she got help and she didn't wait until it got worse.

  • Depression is serious. Don't just shrug it off. 
  • Ashleys doctor tells her whats steps she could take to help her with her depression.
  • The narrator discusses ways to prevent depression, or treat it.

  • Depression is not just sadness like most people think. It could be extreme fatigue, feeling empty, worthless, or hopeless. You can feel like you want to isolate yourself from the world, etc.
