Thomas Jefferson passed the Embargo Act of 1807 which stopped all trade with the world, in order to hurt the British economy.
Darn the blasted British! I will put an act that will forbid us to trade with them or the world!
Jefferson began to realize that the people were angry since the British could still trade with the rest of the world, and only the US was getting harmed
Thomas! Look at my cloths! All my money comes from trade and now that I can't trade with international countries, I can't get money!
