Since a young age, I resented my name. It was bad enough I had to carry his last name, never mind his first name. It didn't feel like mine knowing that my biological father had the same one... your name is part of your identity and I wanted my identity to have nothing to do with him...
School made me hate my name even more...
Wait what's your last name? I thought it was D'Agostino? That's your mom and dad's last name, isn't it?
Nacy Adams?... Lily Harvy?...Alexis Tubens?...
I knew what I wanted, or so I thought... By the time I turned 18 I was unsure if a name change would be right for me. The whole thing would be costly and a hassle to change.
What about college application?
What about my High School records?
My social security card?
My debit card?
My birth certificate?
But after much support from my mother and step-father, they agreed to look over the legalities of everything and make my wish come true.
If it's something you want... I could even adopt you as my own daughter. I know we've talked about it before... but know I'd want nothing more than for you to be a D'Agostino. I've never looked at you as anyone different.
We'll all talk to a lawyer together! It can be your 18th birthday president!
Are those happy tears or...?
They're h-h-happy tears... thank you so much, dad.
Are you excited? This is a big day for us bud!
Nope! I've been waiting on this day my entire life.
