Japanese Colonization was a drastic reason for them to be as aggressive as they were. Japan was a smaller country and they needed all of the space they could get, including Manchuria.
Japanese Internment Camps
While Japan was taking over Eastern China the U.S. realized that we needed to do something. We started Economic Strangulation, which would have Japan lose money while losing resources, such as oil and steel.

On the date of December 7, 1942, Japan launched a surprise attack against the U.S. The main point of the attack was to cripple our Pacific Naval Fleet. This began a state of war between our two countries.
Japan Surrenders on September 2
The U.S. issued an act to control all Japanese Americans after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Around 110,000 and 120,000 Japanese were housed in the camps to control the attacks just to be sure it wasn't done by spies inside the U.S.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt made a speech speaking of the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. He said that it was a date that will live in infamy, which means bad reputation or rough memory.
On September 2, 1945, there was a ceremony of the surrender of the Japanese military. After August 6, which was the date when the U.S. dropped the world's first atomic bomb on Hiroshima.
