Storyboard Text
- Manuel stops to see a small fox with fur as bright as flame. Manuel gives the fox a spam sandwich with then a chunk of cornbread.
- Here, Mr. Fox. Are you hungry?
- Your mother is not well.
- Manuel returns home as he is then told about the unfortunate news about the stroke of his mother.
- The doctor say it's a stoke.
- Will she be okay?
- I don't know. A pretty girl, strange-looking. I think her name was Tomiko.
- Manuel comes home from school to then check in on his mother as he becomes aware of the girl that has taken care and fed her.
- I'm fine, Manolo. The girl cleaned the place, and made me squash soup.
- What girl mom?
- You must be Tomiko. Are you new here?
- Manuel meets the girl his mother was talking about as he asks Tomiko if she's new and wants to thank the girl for her helpings. Tomiko states where she has been and where she was as Manuel realizes she has escaped from the relocation center.
- Yes, I am. I've been hiding in the desert for the past few days. I was in the camp of Lordsburg.
- Soon after the sun rose, Manuel ran to the living room just in time to see Tomiko put an object in her closet. As Manuel grew more curious, he eventually evaluated what was in Tomiko's closet to find a bright red skin that he would soon put in his room to be hidden from Tomiko.
- Tomiko couldn't possibly fit in this.
- Manuel refuses to return Tomiko's skin to her as he thinks there is something she's not telling him and demands to know her secrets. Tomiko runs to where Manuel cannot find her as she attempts to dig a tunnel at the relocation camp. Manuel feels terribly wrong for how he treated Tomiko and wants to help her with the digging of the tunnel with the help of a shovel.
- Nothing.
- Why should I give you back your skin where you're not telling me anything. What are you going to do about it?
