Storyboard Text

  • "I can't stand it! I can't stand it anymore in this house!" I began to feel i was different from my sisters. Pg.65
  • "Ill never let no father marry me away to any old yok" Pg.85
  • "I'm Smart enough to look out for myself. It's a new life now. In America, women don't need men to boss them." Pg.137
  • This is when Sara finally started to realize her worth, and finally putting her foot down and made herself very independent and realize she does not need her father to have a successful life.
  • "It is my business. Mashah is my sister. How dare you eat yourself in a restaurant while the children's milk bill is unpaid" Pg.151
  • Sara is yelling at her dad for being such a prick to her and her sisters. This was after she found the love letters to her sister and saw her dad was not being very fair. This was the start of her going on her own.
  • "You won't have to worry. I'm working by day and studying for a teacher by night" Pg.159
  • Sara has had enough of her father telling her what to do. Her last straw was when her dad freaked out at her for getting the two cents later from the lady who bought the rice. She finally decides to up and leave her family and live on her own.
  • "I knew now that I was alone. I had to give up the dreams of any understanding from Father as I had to give up the longing for love from Max Goldstein" Pg.208
  • Sara goes to visit Mashah, She sees that her husband, being as selfish as he is, leaves her sister starving. So Sara did what was right and showed in-dependency by going off at her husband.
  • To really show Sara's independence she decides to look for a place to live. She finds a nice room for herself where she can both afford and be comfortable in. This is her talking to the lady about moving in and she is questioning if she will be able to pay rent.
  • Sara knew that she would end up being alone after rejecting Max. She chose her books and studying above anything. She chose to become independent and go against love as well as her father.
