Storyboard Text

  • " When the coughing stopped, there was nothing but the nothingness of life moving on with a shuffle, or a near-silent twitch. A suddeness of founds its way onto his lips then, which were a corroded brown color and peeling." Pg 20
  • The Ordinary World
  • "There was something black and rectangular lodged in the snow. Only the girl saw it. She bent down and picked it up and held it firmly in her fingers. The book had silver writing on it." pg 24
  • The Call to Adventure
  • " The Grave Digger's Handbook- under her mattress, and occasionally she would pull it out and hold it. Staring at the letters on the cover and touching the print inside, she had no idea what any of it was saying." pg 38
  • Refusal of call
  • Liesel's brother dies on the train . The audience can clearly see a dilemma for the hero, which is that she is losing all of her family and believes that she will be all alone in the world.
  • Meeting the mentor/helper
  • "It was hot, but it was also wet, burned only at the edges, but otherwise unhurt" pg 120
  • Liesel finds "The Gravediggers Handbook" and this is the first book she steals. This is Liesels call to adventure. Which starts a very interesting career in the art of book thievery.
  • Crossing the threshold
  • Diesel cannot read and she is to shy or ashamed to get help. She is also missing her family and is waking up crying from the night mares. This puts a halt into her journey in book thievery.
  • Tests and Enimies
  • ""Is this yours?" "Yes, papa." "Do you want to read it?" Again, "Yes, Papa." A tired smile. Metallic eyes, melting. "Well, we'd better read it, then."" pg 54
  • Liesel doesn't know how to read. So her papa is helping her learn how to read. Thus making him a sort of mentor/help.
  • Liesel steals one of the burnt Jewish books from the fire, which she is not supposed to do. She is committed to enter a new world of stealing and lies. She steals the books for no one but herself.
  • Diesel begins to hate Hitler and everything to do with him. I couldn't use a Nazi flag so the German flag is the next best thing. She began to hate Hitler after the book burning and this hate continues throughout the book.
  • " "I hate the Fuhrer," she said. "I hate him." pg 115
