  •  Mutualism: in the hot and dry desert is the relationship between a Gobi woodpecker and a cactus. The woodpecker feeds on insects and parasites that could harm the cactus.
  • Symbiotic Relationships
  • Parasitism: A flea is a parasite on a coyote. The flea benefits by drinking the coyote's blood, but the coyote, by losing blood and acquiring discomfort and potential disease, is harmed. 
  •  Global warming is increasing the incidence of drought, which dries up water holes. Higher temperatures may produce an increasing number of wildfires that alter desert landscapes by eliminating slow-growing trees and shrubs and replacing them with fast-growing grasses.
