  • The meeting of the estates general
  • We're in huge debt as of right now!
  • How do we fix this situation?
  • Tennis court oath
  • We've been locked out of our meeting place!
  • Never separate and meet wherever.
  • The storming of the Bastille
  • We surrender!
  • There are no weapons here!
  • King Louis XVI held a meeting with the estates general from the 3 estates to discuss their financial problems. This event helped push France to democracy because King Louis XVI eventually was overthrown due to his spending of the country's money.
  • The march on Versailles
  • We Want Bread!
  • The National Assembly was locked out of their usual meeting place by the King and the decided to meet at a tennis court. There they pledged to never separate and meet wherever. This helped push France into a democracy because 
  • The reign of terror
  • He´s innocent! 
  • Parisians stormed the Bastille for what they thought had weapons stored inside the building. They did so for protection because they believed that the royal troops were coming to Paris. This event helped push the power from the monarchy to the people.
  • The rise of Napolean
  • Support Napoleon!
  • The March to Versailles was a march for women that opposed the Queen and her lifestyle. Lots and lots of women chanted "we want bread!", as they headed to Versailles to get the royal family back to France. This event helped push for democracy because the people then saw King Louis as a traitor for trying to escape the mess he made.
  • No more lavish lifestyles for the queen!
  • You traitor! I sentence you to death!
  • During the Reign of Terror, Robespierre abused his power and had 7,000 people beheaded and was eventually beheaded himself. This event helped push towards a democracy because the committee was abusing their power. 
  • Napoleon was a young general who rose to power due to his success in wars. He quickly abolished the Directory and made his own government from enlightenment ideas. This helped with democracy because, Napolean made a three member consul and he developed the Napoleanic code.
