Mrs. Lopez had noticed that Anna had been showing signs of fatigue, dehydration, and frequent urination. She immediately started to worry so she took Anna to a Primary Care Physician. They were able to help Anna find out exactly what was wrong with her and what kind of specialist she can go to help her with her condition. Anna was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. This meant that the beta cells in her pancreas could not make insulin. Therefore, her blood had a lot of glucose which was causing water from her cells to leave the cell causing dehydration and urination. Also, because the glucose was not able to enter the cells, the cells were not getting enough energy, which would explain the fatigue.
The Primary Care Physicians suggested that she make an appointment with a Certified Diabetic Educator. They will be able to provide Anna with the proper information regarding her lifestyle choices now that she was diagnosed diabetic. The Certified Diabetic Educators suggested that Mr. and Mrs. Lopez take Anna to an endocrinologist. Anna has type 1 diabetes which means that her beta cells cannot secrete insulin which is a hormone. The endocrinologist will be able to help Anna with her insulin deprivation. This way her cells will be able to get the glucose from the blood flow.
Lucy Leffingwell and Anna decided to open up their restaurant together. They have been friends for nearly 12 years and are inseparable. Lucy has always known that Anna has a long list of medical problems but just recently she has noticed that Anna was experiencing a lot of pain in her leg. Lucy suggested that Anna visits a doctor to make sure it was nothing serious. Anna visited a doctor and the doctor asked Anna about her diet. Anna mentioned that recently she has not been watching what she eats. Anna stated her diet consisted of high fats and sodium. The doctors determined that Anna might have atherosclerosis. The doctor recommended that Anna visits a cardiologist.
Anna visited the cardiologist and they were able to confirm that Anna had atherosclerosis or a partially clogged coronary artery. Atherosclerosis is caused by a buildup of plaque in blood vessels. Diets containing high levels of LDL causes plaque to form. The cardiologist also noticed how her heart showed signs of left ventricular hypertrophy because of the high blood pressure caused by the blockage. The cardiologist suggested she gets a stent inserted at the site of blockage to expand the artery to increase blood flow.
Anna gets married to her boyfriend, Alex Garcia. Many guests asked if Anna was doing okay. She seemed a bit light headed and was showing signs of pain in her abdomen area. Alex asked Anna personally and she mentioned how she kept having to go urinate even though she didn’t have to. Alex figured something was up so he took her to the doctor to get it checked out.
At the doctor’s office, a urinalysis was taken of Anna and sent to a microbiologist who will determine whether or not Anna has urinary tract infection. UTI is an infection that happens in the urinary system. Signs for possible infection would cause pain in abdomen area, cloudy urine, or blood in urine. The results arrived about a week later saying that Anna was positive for having UTI. She would often just take Aspirin to help with her pain.
