Aslan tasks Fledge, formally known as Strawberry, with taking Digory and Polly to a garden in the far west. Aslan also decides to make the cabman, Frank, the first King of Narnia and teleports Frank's wife to Narnia.
At the garden, Digory is the only one actually allowed into the garden. He picks the apple, but notices that there is someone else in the garden with him, Jadis, eating the apple.
After a lengthy discussion with Jadis, Digory decides to uphold his promise and return the apple to Aslan.
No, I made a promise to Aslan, thus I will bring the apple back to him!
The fruit could heal your mother if you take it for yourself. Aslan only wants the fruit for himself, as it makes whoever eats it immortal!
Upon returning to Aslan, Digory plants the apple, which rapidly grows into a large apple tree. Aslan then coronates Frank, the cabman, and Helen, Frank's wife, as the first King and Queen of Narnia. Aslan then allows Digory to take an apple to bring back to his mother, and teleports Digory, Polly, and Uncle Andrew back to their world.
Mother, please eat this apple.
I'm not sure what the doctor would say, but okay.
After eating the apple, Digory's mother, Mabel, recovers from her illness. A new life is breathed into the house, as Mabel's cheery nature returns.
Polly and Digory buried the remaining rings and the apple core in the backyard. Digory ended up returning to the countryside when his father retired and returned from India.
