  • Massachusetts Bay Colony, 1634
  • I'll be right in, I'm just thanking God for the new life and religious freedom we have here in the colonies
  • Hurry in John, the meal is ready so we and the boys can head to church. We can't take for granted what God gave us.
  • Inside the Church
  • We thank God for leading us to the colonies so that we may praise Him.
  • Massachusetts Bay Colony, New England
  • God was a main part of my life. I went to Church every Sunday and prayed daily, Those who didn't honor the Sabbath were punished and humiliated. We didn't have the religious freedom that we have here over in England although we still are persecuted by the other colonists. I went to the colonies because I could practice my religion freely.
  • England, 1633
  • Get away puritan. You don't belong here in England.
  • At Church we were taught of God by the pastor. I'm so thankful for reaching the colonies. The journey was rough, terrible weather conditions and horrible smells were present throughout the whole journey. The two month journey left my wife and I terribly tired and sick. It was worth the whole journey though. The journey unfortunately took the lives of one of my boys. The whole journey was just miserable.
  • Fields outside of my house
  • After we went to Church I went to the town. I trade in my crops. After a growing season, I bring in my crops and sell them at the local market. I also buy and trade at the market. This is how I grow new crops and make a lot of my money. I came to Massachusetts Bay Colony because a lot of the colonists here are Puritans. Here, I know that I won't be judged for my faith. This is a really nice town and it has good land. Massachusetts Bay Colony was a great example of Puritanism. Everyone prayed together and shared the same faith.
  • Inside of my house
  • My life back in England was a hard one. Many people persecuted us Puritans for spending all of our time with God. This is the main reason I traveled to the Americas. The Church of England put laws up basically kicking out the Puritans from the Church of England. My life is so much better in the Americas because we aren't oppressed for our faith.
  • A main part of my daily life was growing crops. this brought in sufficient money for my family. Soon my boys will join and learn how to work the fields. Although farming is a hard and painful job, I enjoy it and do it for my family.
  • I'm so glad I colonized. In England I felt like an outsider and it was oppressing. God is big part of my life and in England I couldn't praise God without being persecuted by others. It was worth it to come to the colonies because of the religious freedom, plus I have a nice job on the side that can support my family.
