July 3rd 1863: The battle of Gettysburg was a very important, but deadly battle of the civil war. Over 46,000 Americans died.
The day after the battle President Lincoln came and made a speech. The Gettysburg Address
Abraham Lincoln wrote the whole speech on the train ride there.
But president Lincoln didn't believe his speech was very good, one reason was that his speech only consisted of 272 words, while the speech before his, lasted 2 hours.
