  • Cold Winters and the James town drought
  • In the spring of 1607 three English ships carrying more than 100 passengers sailed into the mouth of Chesapeake Bay and they worked their way up the James River. The passage said that "this was to be the first permanent English settlement in the New World"
  • Settlers
  • In James Town due to adjacent rivers and creeks water levels rose. In document A it said "disease in the early years to James town" this was due to all the waste and sanitation they didn't have
  • Deaths
  • In James Town there was cold winters which caused most people to die. The document says that "during the years 16070-1612 was there longest unbroken period of drought. During the winter of 1609-1610 the document stated that " Jamestown experienced what was called the starving time" and they didn't have any food.
  • Colonists arriving at James Town
  • In May of 1607, 110 settlers arrived and in 1608 ,120 settlers arrived. None of them were female because they would stay home and take care of the house or kids. The document says that "of the 110 settlers who arrived in 1607 nearly 70 were dead by December" that is because most of them were gentleman and none were farmers.
  • In 1609 Francis West and 36 men sailed up to the Chesapeake Bay to try trade corn with the Patawomeke Indians. the document says that "the English supposedly forced the Indians to trade their grain by cutting there heads, arms, and legs off".
  • In the summer [of 1609 about 524 colonists arrived at James town. The document says that " only 8 die during well- provisioned winter" and that " 11 colonists die in the boating accident". 84 settlers died from diseases and 7 of them were killed by Indians.
