  • Migrants face poverty, lack of housing, medical care, educational opportunities, and discrimination in cities because of the Hukou regional passport system. By migrating to areas outside their officially identified region, they give up state-provided aide.
  • What are the results?
  • To stem the tide of migration, rural communities need to become self-sustaining, and produce living wages for their inhabitants. Our partners produce all the knowledge, skills, resources, and demand needed to help rural communities flourish.
  • Government agencies
  • Rural population
  • Restaurants, chefs, markets
  • The Exchange is an internet-based network to help rural communities prosper. It provides educational courses and resources, a marketplace for the sale of goods and services from rural to urban areas, and a support system to encourage rural development.
  • Through the Exchange, rural Chinese will learn more sustainable agricultural practices, and produce more. The Exchange also provides a platform to sell the goods they produce. With demand for their products, users will be able to earn more and improve their standard of living. This will lessen the need to migrate to cities.
