ROAD BLOCKDREAMS CANT BE FULFILLED
My first impression of the title is a paradise for African Americans coming from the South. I think Langston chose this title, because Harlem was such a big part of African American history.
The poem talks about how some dreams are not fulfilled. And how sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes it is a bad thing.
Fester, crust, sugar over, sags, explode, dry up
The poems tone is making it sound like all their dreams are unreachable. And they have no meaning.
I think the shift is when Langston says "Or does it explode?" It affects the poem by showing a more aggressive way of the dream going away.
The theme is that some dreams are out of your control.
