  • Union forces waged a campaign to take the confederate stronghold of Vicksburg, Mississippi, which lay on the East bank of the Mississippi river.
  • General Benjamin Butlers crossed over the Appomattox river and attacked the Petersburg denfenses June 15th. 
  • They were once attacked again on June 18th but were repulsed with heavy causalities. By this point, the confederate works very heavily manned and greatest opportunity  to capture Petersburg without a siege was lost. (Union was attacked)
  • They finally went to war...
  • The war came to a end...
  • And the union got the victory
