On December 16, the American colonists dressed up as Indians to protest the Tea Act. They threw hundreds of pounds of tea into the Boston harbor. This is important because it is one of the first steps in separating from England.
On April 19, the battle of the revolutionary started. Tension had already been building for years like a ticking time bomb. The British's goal was to march to Lexington and Concord to take their gun powder and weapons. The American colonists confronted them and won.- "Stand your ground. Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war let it begin here."
On June 17, American forces were pushed off of bunker hill by the British. Although they suffered a defeat, they inflicted serious damage on British forces.-"Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!"
Battle of Yorktown
Valley forge was a camp set up in 1777-1778 for George Washingtons troops. This was in the winter so it was freezing cold. Troops were getting frostbite and starving to death. It was a horrible period of the war.-"Between you and me I think we are in an exceeding dangerous Situation"
On March 29, Britain decided to siege Charles town. This lasted about a month. Eventually the Americans surrendered. This is known as one of the worst american losses in history.-"In modern wars the longest purse must chiefly determine the event"
In 1781, George Washington led 17000 troops to the siege of Yorktown. He was also assisted by the french. Cornwallis was forced to surrender ending the war for independence. This is important because, it was the time America gained it's freedom. -"We will fight like lions. Until the last man is killed"
