Did you know that as the sea levels rise there will be more storms such as hurricanes on coastal properties? Humans on coastal properties make up 40% of the population in the US. Magnitude 4 and 5 storms will be increased by 45-87%
Wow, those are some strong storms and that's a lot of people, why does this happen though?
The reason sea levels will rise is as carbon dioxide traps more heat on the planet, the oceans get warmer and expand in volume. By the year 2100 if we keep up with the same emissions we could expect the climate temperature to increase by 4 degrees Celcius which would equal 2-5 feet of sea level rise.
Wow, that's a lot of water in the oceans increased, isn't their also sea levels rising from glaciers melting.
Yes, your right, sea levels also rise when global warming causes glaciers to melt and that excess water flows into the ocean.
Oh ok, that makes more sense, I knew there was more than one-way sea levels rose. Does that also mean the storms will become more violent when sea levels rise.
yes, it does, wind speeds will be increased by 2-11% and rainfall will be increased by 20% from warmer sea surface temperatures.
Wow, that's a lot. Won't the rainfall increase the sea level rise?
Yes, it will, global average sea levels will be expected to rise 1-4 feet in the next century.
Wow, now I know that sea level rise will increase the oceans sea level, which increases the number of storms but what can I do to help this issue.
To help this issue humans need to start using electric cars or renewable energy sources and stop burning so many fossil fuels which increases the temperature in the atmosphere. If we really start cutting off these fossil fuels by 2100 the atmosphere temperature will only increase 2 degrees Celsius which means the sea level will only rise 11 inches to 3.5 feet.
Thanks for the information, I'm going to get an electric car now to help stop burning fossil fuels and keep the sea level down.
