  • EXPOSITION
  • CONFLICT
  • RISING ACTION
  • Around the time that school ends, the children gather stones in the center of town. Then everyone gathers and with their families to until everyone arrives.
  • CLIMAX
  • The conflict of the story is the lottery and who will pull the black dot to be the winner.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • Mr. Summer explains the rules of the lottery while they wait for everyone to arrive. Meanwhile, Mrs. Hutchinson arrives and goes to her family so the lottery can begin.
  • RESOLUTION
  • Once everyone arrives, the lottery starts as the head of houses pick a piece of paper from the black box. After everyone gets their cards, the Hutchinson family is the family who gets the paper with the black dot. 
  • The Hutchinson's have to pull pieces of paper from the black box again from but their family. The second time around, Tessie Hutchinson gets the black dot and "wins" the lottery. 
  • The people of the village throw rocks at Tessie Hutchinson because she is the one won the lottery.
