  • I really think we should be more aggressive towards Spain.

  • The war at Manila was won easily by America. Dewey's men destroyed the Spanish ships in the Phillipines.
  • In the Caribbean, Admiral William T. Sampson sealed up the Spanish fleet in the harbor of Santiago de Cuba
  • It's so hot in this tropical climate. What were they thinking giving us heavy cotton unis??
  • Forget the heat, I need your gun. Gimie it!!
  • Americans had a few handicaps. They didn't have enough modern guns and the troops were uniformed in heavy cotton bad for the tropics of Cuba. They landed in Cuba in June 1898.

  • One of the volunteer Cavalries, the Rough Riders, was commanded by Theodore Roosevelt. Newspapers declared him the hero of the second victory on San Jaun Hill. Americans invaded Puerto Rico on July 25.
