Stephen Austin had had enough of Texas being closed to immigration and not allowed to become independent. He decided to go talk to general Antonio Lopez to negotiate with him but instead got thrown into jail.
After Stephen Austin was released in 1835 the Texans started to revolt. Santa Anna decided to march an army through Texas until they got to the Alamo where they found the Texans hiding in there. The army surrounded the Alamo and tried to get them to surrender.
Texas wins its independence
After the Texans were surrounded in the Alamo they realized how important the Alamo was so they sent out reinforcement letters to help defend the Alamo. Unfortunately no reinforcements came.
To annex Texas or to not
Since the Texans were just sitting in the Alamo, Santa Anna's army decided to pound the Alamo cannon balls. After twelve days of shooting cannon balls they decided to rush into the Alamo and got into a 90 minute gunfight with Texans and then Santa Anna's army took over the Alamo.
After the Texans had lost the Alamo they retreated and ended up drawing them further into Texas. One night the decide to ambush the army when they were sleeping screaming the words for the Alamo when they attacked essentially winning them there independence.

After Texas won its independence from Mexico it was considered an independent for ten years. During these ten years America was deciding whether or not to annex Texas. In 1844 Texas was made the 28th state of the U.S.
