Storyboard Text

  •  I James Cook. The English navigator Captain James Cook sighted New Zealand on 6 October 1769.
  •  My Husband drew detailed and accurate maps of the country, and wrote about the Māori people.
  •  Hey Wellington has been the capital of New Zealand Since 1865
  • Did you know that New Zealand's first capital city was Russell in 1840 to 1841. Auckland was the second capital from 1841 until 1865
  • I learnt Lambton Quay is built 250 metres back from the harbour in 1855
  • It also got its name from being built on reclaimed swamp land following the upheaval of a mass area of land out of the harbour, during a major earthquake in 1855.
  • Nice coffee and I learnt that The beehive was built in 1969
  •  Ya it is nice and The Beehive is 72 metres high. Legend has it that 'The Beehive', the city's well-known Parliament Building was in fact designed on the back of a napkin as a joke. The designer never thought for a moment it would be built.
  • Did you know that on 14 February 1998, Te Papa opened in Cable Street, Wellington, on time and within budget.
  • Fun fact is the National Gallery and National Museum moved out of their Buckle Street site in 1996.
  • Wow this book says that in 1999 to 2000 Lord of the Rings was filmed in Wellington. The lord of the rings was filmed around wellington in October 1999 to December 2000
