  • The Byzantine empire is located in the eastern half of the ancient Roman empire. When Constantine made Byzantine the new capital he named it Constantinople.
  • Constantinople was called the New Rome because it had all the same laws and many buildings were built with the same ancient Roman designs.
  • The Bosporus strait is a waterway and it was important to the Byzantine empire because it was a good trade route for ships to use
  • The Byzantine empire became so wealthy because when the emperor moved there the wealthy people moved with him. Also, it was a trading city because it was located on the Bosporus strait where goods like oil, wine, salt, fish, and meat.
  • Two of the most popular emperors in the Byzantine empire were Justinian and also Constantine. Constantine was known for splitting the Roman empire in half and also he was the first Christian Roman emperor. Justinian was known for killing 30,000 people in a riot and also he brought over Rome's old laws and called them Justinian's code.
