Principles of Government
There are four characteristics of the state.
Can anybody guess what they are?
Okay... Well, it's population, territory, sovereignty, and government.
There are three basic forms of government. unitary, federal, and confederate
The powers in a government are divided between a central government and several local governments
In an oligarchy, the power to rule is held by a small, usually self- appointed elite.
The purpose of a government is to form a perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty.
To classify governments, you have to ask: who can participate in the governing process, the geographic distribution of governmental power within the state, and the relationship between the legislative and executive branches of the government
The free enterprise system is also called capitalism.
A recognition of the fundamental worth and dignity of every person, respect for the equality of all persons, a faith in majority rule and an insistence upon minority rights, an acceptance of the necessity of compromise, and an insistence upon the widest possible degree of individual freedom
