Your under arrest! And you have to dump all of the liquor!!
Prohibition
OH NO!!
During the 1920's there was prohibition, that went into effect on January 17 1920, which made the production and sale of liquor and booze illegal. But it was hard to endorse because it was a federal law, (and pretty much only the feds endorsed it) so people went to secret bars and parties called "speakeasies".
Prohibition
People would go to the speakeasies to dance, drink, and socialize. Flappers were common there (flappers were women who went up against the traditional ways of dancing and partying).
Prohibition
If the feds found the speakeasies they would arrest the people and make them dump all of the liquor and sometimes even destroy the speakeasy.
Prohibition
The federal government made them dump the liquor.
Mostly small town rural areas endorsed the new law, the religious groups mostly thought that drinking was wrong and bad.
Drinking is very bad!
During prohibition organized crime was booming, it gave rise to gangsters like Al Capone and others. Bootleggers would bring intoxicating liquors from out of the states and bring them into the country to sell.
