Romulus and Remus were born, their father being Mars (the God of War) and their mother being Silvia (the daughter of the King, Numitor).
When news of the twins reached Numitor’s brother, Amulius, he was furious. He sent 2 guards to fetch the babies and drown them in the Tiber River.
The guards did what they were told. They took the babies from the Temple of Mars, placed them in a basket, and put them into the Tiber River.
As the basket travelled down the river, a she-wolf saw the twins. She took them out of the basket and to her cave.
Whenever a shepherd found the twins in the she-wolf’s cave, he took them to his home and his wife. The old couple took care of Romulus and Remus until they had grown up.
When they had grown up, they made their own city. However, they could not think of a name they both liked. Romulus wanted to name the city Rome, while Remus wanted to name it something else. In the end, Romulus killed Remus, and Rome was born.
