Thomas Jefferson gives Merriwether Lewis a job to explore the West of the United States of America. Jefferson had bought the land for 15 million dollars from France. He later sent a letter to William Clark to see if he would like to assist him in his journey. He later agreed to join him.
The Discoveries (May 14, 1804)
The Crew was consisted of 59 people including a slave that was one of Clark's companions since childhood. His name is York and is now one of Clark's slaves
Native Americans (November 1804)
During the first few days in the expedition Lewis while taking some notes about the environment almost faced death when he fell of a cliff. It was only 2 days that had passed since the started the expedition. They all knew what the dangers would be but they never feared about the consequences.
The End Of The Journey (November 1805-March 23 , 1806)
Lewis kept track of all of the new things that he had spotted during the trip. He discovered new species and new environments on the way to the Pacific Ocean.
During the expedition the crew had encountered many Native American tribes. They did many trades with them and it resulted in them getting food in return. One Native American tribe had helped them by providing them with an interpret. It was Sacagewea. She was 16 and was pregnant with a child. She came from the Shoshone tribe
They encountered many challenges on their way to the Pacific Ocean. They Even go held hostage from a Native American tribe but Sacagewea had helped them get out of that problem. In the end they got to see the Pacific Ocean. Only one of their men had died during the trip They had returned safely after 2 years, 4 months, and 10 days.
