Storyboard Text

  • Hello my lord, thank you for meeting me.I was wondering if I would be so lucky to be granted a feudal contract?
  • Of course, now, vassel, what will I gain in return?
  • Feudalism during the Middle Ages
  • Well in exchange for this fief, I will pledge to you my loyalty and every year you will have 40 days of military service along with limited payments and advice when needed!
  • Alright, I grant you access to my estate which includes peasants and protection. In addition, you will have any buildings or towns that on located on the land
  • Thank you my lord, goodbye!
  • Goodbye
  • Here, in the lords' manor, the vassel is asking his lord for a feudal contract. A feudal contract is an exchange of pledges between a lord and vassel.
  • Serf, you will be bound to your land. Only under my word may you leave.
  • That's fine my lord, thank you!
  • The Lord and the vassel are stating the terms that involve the feudal contract. The vassel ends up with the fief and the Lord gives him peasants and serf.
  • While you live on my fief you will provide labor and goods for me. In return, I promise to give you protection and land. Understand?
  • The contract is finished. The vassel and lord with keep there promises to each other.
  • May I remind you, you are not a slave but a worker for me. You will not be bought or sold, but you are not free.
  • I understand thank you for everything. Goodbye.
  • Next, enters a peasant called a serf. They are in need of land and a job but rarely left the land.
  • The serf knows leaving his land will break the deal with his lord. He will work on his lands under the lords circmstances and also provide food for him.
  • Yes, of course, thank you
  • The serf then continues to head off to work. Even though the serf is not free, they weren't considered a slave.
