  • In 1858, large quantities of gold were found in British Columbia.
  • Did you hear the good news? They found tons of gold in British Columbia!!
  • Really?! 
  • I'm going to be rich!!

  • Many people came from countries such as British North America,the United States,Europe and China to prospect for gold.
  • This gold discovery caused the population to increase rapidly. At least 30,000 people moved to British Columbia at this time.
  • The increase in mining caused the British Columbian First Nation's fishing waters to become polluted.
  • ???
  • This resulted in the Fraser Canyon War and several other conflicts between the First Nations and the miners.
  • Governor James Douglas made deals with the First Nations, in hope to end disputes.
  • The deals resulted in justice for the First Nations and ended the conflict.
