Storyboard Text

  • On Easter morning, the slaves were very nervous but also ready to put the plan into action after weeks of planning. But right before they we're going to escape, some policemen knocked on the front door of the plantation and came to tie up all of the slaves.” Get off of me what did we even do!” said Douglass.”You have all been suspected of planning to escape and for that you are all under arrest.” “ NO get off of me!” said Henry, fighting back.” I would rather die than to be sent back and be a slave”. After a while they tied up all of the slaves. Douglass felt like the rope was digging into a layer of his skin. They then searched Douglass for protections but luckily he threw them into the fire. They we're then sent to prison which was their biggest fear on this operation. Douglass somehow still had a little bit of fight left in him however, after watching Henry fight back.
  • ”We need to own nothing” said Douglass. “What do you mean?” “ We need to still have confidence in each other and we need to fight back like you did back there Henry” “ I know but we have no hope to escape now”.Douglass seemed to feel like Henry where he had no hope.” I threw our protections into the fire before they tied me up” said Douglass.” Great, now we have no chance to escape anyway. When they get to the prison Douglass realises that someone must have betrayed their trust.
  • Douglass and the other slaves spend about a week in the prison when Captain Auld comes with some news.”Douglass your gonna be sent to Alabama”. Douglass began to feel worried because Alabama was a horrible slave state. But then Captain Auld said something else:” On second thought your going to be sent to my brother Hugh, where your gonna learn some sort of trade. Douglass felt immense relief but also wondered if he should try to escape from Captain once he took him out of prison. Douglass went on to escape from slavery four years ever and he never gave up on his dreams, no matter the consequences.
