On the Manor Farm, Old Major gathers the animals together and holds a meeting that inspires the them to go against Mr. Jones and to revolt against the authority of humans all together. Once they come up with a good enough plan they chase Mr. and Mrs. Jones off the farm and now the animals are in charge.
All of the animals try their best to learn reading and writing skills which is easier for some animals then others. They also come up with commandments and everything seems pretty good, food is plentiful and the farm runs smoothly. That is until there is a struggle for power among the animals.
Napoleon, the main leader starts to make lots of changes in power. He is worried and paranoid that the other animals will overthrow him and take over in power. With this thought in mind he starts making changes in who has a voice and power and replaces the other animals with pigs and dogs.
Napoleon chases away another pig that was fighting for power versus him. He then accuses many of the animals that they are going against him and siding with the enemy so he starts to go after them. This is when everything starts going down hill on the farm, there is a storm that knocks over the windmill they have been working so hard on.
The animals on the farm realize that they were much better off when Mr. Jones was in charge and the animals didn't have to do a lot of work. Things on the farm get continually worse and the animals have worked to the point of complete exhaustion. One of the animals worked so hard that he collapsed on the farm and ended up passing away.
The animals on the farm are no longer equal. The pigs are beginning to act more and more like humans like standing upright and wearing clothes. The other animals can no longer tell the difference between the pigs and the humans.
