Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz was born on August 13, 1926, in Birán, a small Cuban Town. His father, Angel Castro, was a wealthy Spanish sugar cane farmer and his mother was one of his father's domestic servants.
Bay of Pigs
Castro attended many Jesuit schools after being baptized as a child but was more interested in sports, he especially excelled in baseball. Castro often misbehaved at the Jesuit schools.
Cuban Missile Crisis
Castro made multiple attempts to overthrow the government before he was successful. Castro along with Che Guevera and his brother Raul Castro didn't give up and Fidel Castro took over as prime minister of Cuba in 1959 on the first of January after gaining support from some people in the public. Castro would then later replace the old government with communism.
April 1961 the US trains 1,400 Cuban exiles to take back Cuba from Castro. Castro knew this attack was happening and managed to fight back spectacularly leading to the death of 100 rebels and the rest being captured. In December 1962 Castro offered to give back the rebels for $52 million in supplies, the US accepts.
US intelligence discovered Missiles stationed in Cuba which laid 90 miles away from the shore of Florida. After confronting the Soviet Union, which Castro relied heavily upon, about it they agreed to remove the missiles from the island against Castro's wishes.
Fidel Castro died on November 25, 2016, at the age of 90 of natural causes. He died in Havana Cuba. His brother Raul Castro had taken his place as president of Cuba eight years before in 2008 and he too later resigned in 2018.
