Alfonso Lopez jr was a 12th grade student at Edison High School in San Antonio, Texas. He carried an unloaded revolver into school to sell it to someone for 44 dollars.
Later that day he was confronted by school authorities and admitted to having the weapon. The next day he was charged with violating the federal.
Lopez was tried and convicted but he appealed and was sent to the US Court of Appeals.
Lopez was found guilty and he appealed again and the Supreme court allowed the case.
In a 5-4 decision the Supreme court affirmed the decision of the Court of Appeals.
Lopez spent 5 years in jail, until they threw out his conviction.
