  • You can have the whole Louisiana territory for 15,000,000 dollars.
  • Napoleon Bonaparte
  • Uh.... Deal!
  • Lets call this the Louisiana purchase
  • You're Welcome! Now give me the money.

  • Can you guys go explore the Missouri River and find a way to the Pacific Ocean?

  • Robert Livingston goes to France to ask for the Louisianna territory from Napoleon Bonaparte. He gives it to him for fifteen million dollars.
  • Wow its a new mountain! I'm going to call it Pike Peak.

  • Also, I'm calling this journey the Pikes Expedition.
  • Napoleon agrees to this deal because he needs the money, and the Louisianna Purchse was agreed upon.

  • Thomas Jefferson, president at the time, asks William Clark and Meriweather Lewis to go explore the Missouri River and find a way to the Pacific Ocean.

  • Zebulon Pike was also exploring the Louisiana territory. He mapped a lot of the upper Mississippi. He then went west to Colorado and found a mountain now called Pikes Peak.

  • The Essex Junto were a group of Federalists that met in Massachusetts. They were not happy about the U.S. expanding south and west because that meant that they would loose influence in national affair.
  • They were planning to remove New England out of the union. They decided to convince Aaron Burr, vice president, to run for governor of New York.
