Storyboard Text

  • The book begins in Kraków, Poland in 1939.
  •  The Nazis soon walled in Kraków to form a ghetto for Jews. Yanek and his parents move into an old pigeon coop. Yanek sees his parents taken away while at work during resettlement for the concentration camps. Yanek soon finds out that he is the only one left from his family.
  • Yanek is soon taken away while at work. He is taken to a camp close to the ghetto. He sees his Uncle Moshe during roll call. Sadly Uncle Moshe was killed a couple weeks later. After meeting Amon Goeth he quickly moves camps.
  • Yanek has switched between 9 different camps and now on the way to his 10. He is forced to do another Death March through Czechoslovakia. The Czech threw bread and other foods to the Jews to help them finish their journey.
  • At a train depot on the afternoon of the sixth day,  the train car keeping all of the Jews documents was hit by a bomb. This destroyed all of their information. When they finally got to Dachau, the camp broke out with typhus, killing hundreds daily.
  • One night the prisoners woke up to explosions. When the morning came there were no kapos or guards. They looked out to the front gate to see American soldiers coming to save them. The soldiers took them to Munich where Yanek met the Gamzers and their daughter who will become Yanek's wife years later.
