The two people that wrote Cato's Letters are unknown. They called themselves Cato the Elder and Cato the Younger. These newspaper editorials were published in the 1720s.
They wrote this because they wanted to argue against the king's heavy handed rule. They wanted to accomplish giving the people more freedoms and power, such as freedom of expression.
Their document let people know of the wrongs that the king was doing. It caused the people to stand up against his wrongdoings.
