  • Tibet- Qinghai Plateau These Plateaus are very large, with Mount Everest near them.  The area is cold, dry, and has a maximum elevation of 13,500 feet.  Many oxen and antelopes run wild here, along with domesticated goats and yaks.
  • The Taklimakan Desert This desert is one of the most dangerous deserts in the world.  The fast winds collapse dunes and create sandstorms that move at amazing speed.  There is no vegetaion, and a few oases and rivers.
  • Gobi Desert This desert is very large, covering 500,000 miles of land.  It has few sand dunes and the land is covered in rocks.  Many fossils can be found here.
  • Northeastern Plain The Northeastern Plain is in Northern China.  It has short Summers, and long, dry winters.  The land has two rivers, the Liao and the Sungari.  The main plant here is prarie grass, making it good for shepherds and other animal herders.
  • North China Plain This area is flat and dry, and gets runoffs of sand and limestone silt from the nearby Gobi Desert.  The Huang He river, which runs through the plains, gets its name from the silt, as 'Huang' means 'yellow' in Chinese.
  • Chang Jiang Basins The basins are low lying and very wet, with many rivers and deltas.  It does not flood often, and is good for growing rice, but not other crops, as there is not enough space.
