Storyboard Text

  • British troops attack  in   Charlottesville ,  where   the   Virginia   government   was   meeting.
  • Thomas   Jefferson as   well   as   other   officials   had  to   leave  Virginia    quickly   to escape   General   Cornwallis.
  • We need to leave quickly!
  • Marquis de Lafayette was a French leader that was under command of the American troops , they fought back against the British. This caused General Cornwallis to retreat to the Yorktown peninsula which was a huge mistake.
  • We need to get back to Yorktown.
  • After Cornwallis retreated   , Washington as well as his French allies ( Marquis de Lafayette  and Comte de Rochambeau) had trapped Cornwallis on the Yorktown peninsula.
  • This successfully cut Cornwallis off from all supplies; he could not escape by land or by sea. Washington and Lafayette blocked Cornwallis’ path on land, while Comte de Rochambeau blocked Cornwallis by sea
  • For several weeks, Cornwallis held out. Finally, with supplies running low, Cornwallis surrendered to Washington’s Continental Army.
