Storyboard Text

  • Nobody has died of hunger! What are you talking about?
  • You need to kill him with a stone already!
  • Do not worry, daughter. You will get better soon....
  • The president claims that nobody has died of hunger in Malawi, even though hundreds have already. He says he has lived in a village where people died of other things, but not of hunger, so he doesn't believe it.
  • This corn is amazing!
  • Charity and Mizeck walk over to William's house. They see Khama, slowly dying of hunger, and Charity thinks William should put him out of his misery by killing him with a big stone.
  • I can't wait to start reading all of these books!
  • William's sister, Mayless, becomes sick with Malaria. She lay on her reed mat, sweating and shivering, for many days and nights. She couldn't eat and she was becoming extremely thin.
  • We did it! I'm very proud of myself.
  • The dowe (ears of corn) were finally ripe enough to eat. William and Geoffrey downed 30 ears of maize that day. The first pumpkins were also ready... This was the first glimmer of hope that William and his family were going to be ok.
  • William began going to the public library to begin an independent study with books on geography, social studies, and basic spelling. William's friend, Gilbert,  also helped him by lending him the notes he receives in school.
  • William creates his first successful experimental radio windmill with Geoffrey. This builds his confidence and gives him inspiration to make an even bigger model.
