Charlie, the soon to be voyageur, is very sad to be leaving his family and hometown. He has to go to pay for medical bills for his baby sister who is very sick.
The first day started rough, also because there was a dog in the boat. It was raining and Charlie was surprised at how many blisters he already had! But his brigade was nice when he said he was homesick.
We stumble upon rapids, Some men are upset but we decide to run then. They are very strong and most of our stuff gets wet but our guard dog is alert for lives to save, unfortunatley one crew does not make and they were far behind so the dog couldn't help.
The weather was good for us on Superior, although after a while the sun started to go down and it got colder so they found a place to stop. The dog was so excited to stop he swam on shore with our paddle!
We made it to the portage and seeing it made me so happy. There are so many dogs and the people are very friendly. Many men have started to arrive and the the place is getting more crowded and I'm sad that in a few days we leave.
When I got home my family and I were so excited! We celebrated with pie and I realized that I missed them so much I wasn't going to voyage next year. My family is such a sight for sore eyes, and for the first time in a long time my dog got to rest.
