  • Frederick Douglass is a slave who lives with a family called the Aulds. One day Ms. Auld accidently taught Douglass how to read. After that Douglass’s life was changed forever,  he wanted to keep on reading. Mr.Auld decided to send Douglass to plantations to see if that can stop him from reading but it didn’t go as plan. On the first plantation Douglass got in a fight with the owner and on the second plantation Douglass tried to escape but failed. Douglass didn’t like slavery and wanted to be free one day but can’t because he is owned by the Aulds. One day Mr.Auld decided to send Douglass to a plantation in Alabama a slave state but later on decided to send him to his brother Hugh in Baltimore.
  • Once Douglass got there he found out that Hugh was less strict than Mr.Auld but was still cruel and had ideas on what to do with Douglass “you will be working as a ship builder, my friend owns the place and can get you a job.”Hugh said in a strict voice. The place was old and had a smell of fresh cut wood. The owner Mr.Gardner was waiting for Douglass at the door.” You must be Hugh’s new slave, will my workers will teach you how to caulk and build ships.”Mr.Gardner said. As Mr.Gardner left the room a worker calls him over.
  • “Oi new kid help me with this or else” said one of the workers. Douglass didn’t complain and did as he said.Another worker calls Douglass over and makes him help him as well again Douglass complied with the worker. The workers made Douglass help them the whole day and Douglass did as they said and did not complain. But then near the end of the day Mr.Gardner called all the workers over.
