Storyboard Text

  • Ponyboy is about to get jumped by a group of Socs. In his mind, this is because he didn't ask for any of the gang members to give him a ride home from the movie theater, so he ended up walking alone.
  • Need a haircut, Greaser?
  • ...T-shirt spattered with blood...
  • Ponyboy, standing in line for popcorn, is telling Cherry Valance about the time Johnny was jumped and beat badly by the Socs.
  • Two-Bit, Ponyboy, and Johnny are walking Cherry and Marcia home, because Two- Bit had offered to drive them. They were walking to his house to get his car. While Two-Bit and Marcia were caught up in conversation, Cherry talked to Ponyboy about the Greasers and the Socs.
  • A group of Socs, including Randy and Bob, who happen to be Cherry and Marcia's old boyfriends, show up at the park where Ponyboy and Johnny are. The Socs begin to talk to the boys, and Ponyboy and Johnny try to act cool.
  • Johnny and Ponyboy stare out at the misty golden skies at the back of the church. They are amazed by the sunset, and Ponyboy will recite a poem by Robert Frost that describes their thoughts.
  • Ponyboy is seeing Sodapop and Darry in the doorway of his hospital room for the first time since the night of the murder. He is happy to see them at first, but then he has some second thoughts, since Darry had hit him before.
