Storyboard Text

  • Protagonist
  • Antagonist
  • Conflict
  • Anna Fitzgerald is the main character or protagonist of the novel. She is the daughter of Brian and Anna Fitzgerald, and she has a sister and brother. She has a sister named Kate who has leukemia. She is the main character because the story and conflict revolves around her. Anna is responsible for suing her parents and the emotions present in the story.
  • Conflict
  • The antagonists of this novel are Sara and Brian Fitzgerald, who are Anna’s parents. They oppose Anna’s view and perspective. Anna does not want to donate her body organs and bone marrow to her older sister, Kate, so that Kate can survive and recover from leukemia. Her parents, especially her mom, want Anna to continue helping their daughter. They constantly discuss about Kate’s condition and Anna’s lawsuit throughout the story.
  • Conflict
  • Anna and her family several times have to go to the hospital because of Kate’s medical emergencies, which include excess bleeding. Anna’s surgeries to help Kate survive, like donating lymphocytes and giving bone marrow are also performed in the hospital. She has many feelings having surgeries performed on her at a young age. Since Anna was two years old, she has been giving blood and donating organs and feels pain constantly throughout her life physically and emotionally.
  • Prediction
  • I’m cured!!!
  • Because Anna was constantly unhappy donating her body parts and feeling pain every day, she files a lawsuit against her parents. She feels that it is unfair that the reason she was born was to help her older sister survive. She hires Campbell Alexander as her lawyer. Julia Romano is her assigned guardian litem, who is someone who protects and acts in the best interest of ther child.
  • Anna’s parents are very upset that Anna hires a lawyer. They try to convince her that they love her and that she should support Kate. They claim that they need her in the family. Throughout the novel, Anna has conflicted feelings on whether she should pursue the lawsuit or not. She is scared that things might not work out, and that at the end Kate would die because she refused to give a kidney transplant. However, Anna ends up keeping her original position and the court trial proceeds.
  • I predict that Anna Fitzgerald will win the court case. I think that Campbell will adopt Anna because they have gotten closer throughout the novel, and Kate’s red blood cells will increase resulting in her being cured.
  • Campbell Alexander has rightfully adopted Anna Fitzgerald
