Once upon a time, there was a king and queen who had three children. They had two older girls and one younger boy. There was turmoil in the kingdom at that time, and to keep their children away from it, they forbid them from ever leaving the castle grounds.
The two daughters were always very well behaved, and followed their parents rules without questioning them or complaining. The young boy though, was more curious and mischievous, and always longed to know what was outside of the castle's walls.
One day he could take it no longer and managed to sneak out of the castle and into the forest nearby. He watched a group of children playing by a stream, and cautiously joined them in their games. He kept his true identity secret and enjoyed being able to see what life was like beyond the castle walls.
When the prince went back home, a maid saw him sneak in and told the king and queen. They covered up the area he had snuck out of to keep him from leaving again. But, he could not stop thinking about a girl he had met when he was outside.
When the prince finally became a young man, he decided to renounce his name to the throne and leave life in the castle to go find the girl he had met that one day. He searched the whole kingdom to find her, knocking on every door in town.
The young man finally found the girl, who also remembered him. She was surprised to find that he was a prince, but was happy to see him. The girl and former prince built a simple home for themselves out in the country and lived happily ever after.
