- Gerald goes out for food with his friend Stacy. The food has not been cooked properly and is carrying salmonella, a bacteria which is carried on raw food that has been contaminated with animal waste.
- A few hours later, Gerald starts to experience Sever stomach cramps, diarrhoea and vomiting. He realises that he has been infected with food poisoning from salmonella.

- There is no treatment for salmonella generally, although in some cases, a doctor may prescribe Gerald with antibiotics to help kill the bacteria. Gerald stays at home until he feels better.
- Gerald is now aware of the effects of salmonella, and so to prevent the spread, ensures that he cooks his food well and maintains good hygiene in his environment and preparation.
