Storyboard Text

  • Elliot challenges his father to a shooting match.
  • Elliot believes that he can score a basketball shot faster from a further distance if he throws the ball faster than his pops.
  • Elliot hurls his 0.55 kg basketball at 2 m/s while his father shoots his 0.62 kg basketball at 1.5 m/s.
  • 0.62 kg @ 1.5 m/s
  • 0.55 kg @ 2 m/s
  • The two balls collide and bounce off of each other; Elliot and his father rush to get out of the way
  • (0.55*2) + (0.62*1.5) = (0.55*1.66) + (0.62*1.8)
  • The 0.62 kg ball hits Elliot at 1.8 m/s and knocks him out.
  • Through this demonstration we learn that the 0.55 kg ball maintained a velocity of 1.66 m/s.
  • ... and that while Elliot is actually completely fine, he is definitely set out to be a physics nerd rather than an athlete!
