  • Battle of Saratoga – 1777
  • Battle of Yorktown - 1781
  • After General George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River north of Trenton the previous night, Washington led the main body of the Continental Army against Hessian soldiers garrisoned at Trenton.
  • On October 17, 1777, 5,895 British and German troops surrendered their arms.
  • Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington as French and American forces trapped the British at Yorktown. The British surrender at the Battle of Yorktown ended the American Revolutionary War.
