"The next time we see you, either you take your gun and stand beside us, or you find someone to take you body."
Help join us in fighting for our home country!
No! I need to support my family.
Hello, my name is Aamir and I am twenty-five years old. My family of two daughters, my wife, and I have been petrified of the horrors that have been occurring in Syria recently. There isn't a day goes by that we don't hear gunshots and explosions in the distance.
My family and I have been forced to board up our destroyed house to protect us from the fighting. Over the days we run out of food and barely survive. At one point we had to drink our own urine in order to survive.
I had to take action or else we would die of hunger. So that night I went out to get milk and diapers for my children at the nearest rally point. But when I arrived there, there wasn't such a pleasant surprise.
I will go out to the market and get bread and milk. Get back to the apartment before we get caught.
Alright honey, please be safe. Come along now kids...
I ran as fast I could to my wife and daughters in our broken down house. I explained that if we didn't leave as soon as possible, that I could be caught and then taken. We needed to go somewhere where we would be safe from the dangers of Syria, and somewhere where we could live normal lives where me and my wife would have jobs and our children would play and go to school. I had many dreams for our future but they didn't take place anywhere close to Syria.
Once midnight struck, we walked 5 long miles to the sea port. Little did we know how long in comparison it would be to get to Thailand. It was long, long days of travel and starvation but we made it to Thailand off of our little food supply.
Yes we were out of Syria, but yet we were still in danger from the government. Without our visas in Thailand if we got caught being here illegally, well I don't know what they would do to our family. Maybe put us in jail, take our money that we don't even have, or even worse send us back to Syria. Every time we went out into public we hid and acted normal hoping that no one would question us. But for the most part we just hid in our cheap apartment.
